Keep the heel on the floor.

How to do the Terminal Knee Extension

Set up. Anchor a band at about knee height on a post in front of you and loop it behind one knee. Step back until the band pulls the knee slightly bent.

  1. Straighten the knee fully against the band.
  2. Squeeze the front of the thigh at the end.
  3. Let the knee bend slightly under control.
  4. Finish the set and switch legs.

Form cues

  • Keep the heel on the floor.
  • Straighten fully each rep.
  • Move slowly.

Common mistakes

  • Using a band so heavy the knee cannot straighten.
  • Rocking the hips to move the band.

Muscles worked

Main target: Quads. The quadriceps are four muscles at the front of the thigh. They straighten the knee: squats, lunges, leg presses and every stair.

The catalog names no other muscle it works on the way.

Its other side: Hamstrings and Glutes, in the knees and hips pattern.

Alternatives and swaps

The same main muscle with other equipment: a swap never changes the muscle a workout trains.

A swap describes the movement, not your body: if a joint hurts, ask a professional before you train it.

Variations and preparation

A variation of: Leg Extension.

Do before it: Terminal Knee Extension (same movement, lighter).

Track it in StatBlockFit

In the StatBlockFit app the Terminal Knee Extension is logged set by set: the app suggests your next weight after each session, times your rests, keeps your records and shows the 72-hour recovery of every muscle on its training map. The training guide explains how.
